A Vava Inouva

A wonderful lullaby of Mr. Idir (A singer from Kabylia, a region in the North of Africa). The language used is called Tamazigh. Please, see below a rough translation in English and Chinese.

The rough English translation - Comments are welcome:

"I beg you little father, open the door."

- "O my little girl-coming-from-far-away let's jingle your bracelets..."

- "I fear the monster of the forest, my little father."

- "O my little girl-coming-from-far-away, I fear him too."

Grandfather, wrapped in his burnous (a traditional Algerian trenchcoat),

Warms himself by the hearth.

The son is worried about earning his daily bread,

Days are coming and going in his mind.

The daughter is weaving at the loom.

The children are sitting around Grandmother

Who tells stories from the ancient days.

"I beg you little father, open the door."

- "O my little girl-coming-from-far-away let's jingle your bracelets..."

- "I fear the monster of the forest, my little father."

- "O my little girl-coming-from-far-away, I fear him too."

The snow pusches up against the door,

The winter meal bubbles in the pot.

The men of the village are dreaming of springtime.

The moon and the stars are obscured by clouds.

A log of holm oak crackles under the ember.

The family gathers together

To listen to the wonderful tale.

"I beg you little father, open the door."

- "O my little girl-coming-from-far-away let's jingle your bracelets..."

- "I fear the monster of the forest, my little father."

- "O my little girl-coming-from-far-away, I fear him too."

The rough Chinese translation - Comments are welcome:

Refrain

1er verset

(refrain)

2ème verset

(refrain)
